Nature-Education Center of the Karkonosze National Park Sobieszów Palace
At the Nature-Education Center of the Karkonosze National Park, located in the former estate of the Schaffgotsch family, two interactive exhibitions await you: "Climatic Karkonosze" and "Sobieszów Palace." The KNP Nature-Education Center combines natural and historical education, offering unique experiences for visitors.
"Climatic Karkonosze" Exhibition - Nature-Education Center of the Karkonosze National Park
The "Climatic Karkonosze" exhibition consists of six large themed rooms.
It is an example of a permanent exhibition that is both an educational and natural history exhibit, encouraging slow exploration and deeper understanding of the region's nature.
In a very impressive and original way, you can learn about the geological history of the formation of the Karkonosze Mountains and see the rocks and minerals that make up this mountain range. The rooms are arranged in a mysterious and slightly futuristic atmosphere. A great advantage of the entire "Climatic Karkonosze" exhibition is that everything can be touched and experienced directly, making the visit engaging and highly educational. Additionally, an educational trail complements the main themed rooms and helps to better understand the presented topics.
"Sobieszów Palace" Exhibition
The exhibition spread over the ground floor of the palace building invites visitors on a journey through time. Its goal is to present the history and genealogy of the Silesian Schaffgotsch family. It is worth emphasizing that its owners managed the forest economy in this area over centuries, shaping the customs prevailing in the region.
In the manager's office, visitors can familiarize themselves with copies of original estate documents, sit in the manager's chair, and review a petition, referring to the historical practices of estate management and customs in Sobieszów Palace.
In the Forestry Room, visitors can experience how hard Karkonosze lumberjacks worked in the old days. In the next room, through viewfinders in a specially built stereoscope, guests have the opportunity to observe local nature representatives in old engravings and contemporary nature films. In subsequent rooms, visitors can learn about the region's most valuable resources, such as tree crowns, the flow of a mountain stream, and the symbolic water cycle, with each exhibition prepared for different visitor groups. These spaces are examples of modern exhibition halls presenting both historical and natural aspects. The last exhibition room tells the story of the Karkonosze National Park, which, overseeing the former count's estate lands, has in a way become the heir of the Schaffgotsch family.
